CLUB HISTORY

According to folklore, cricket was being played in a field adjacent to the church in Harlestone, in approximately 1902 and the club was formed by Canon Berry.
Due to the outbreak of war, the club disbanded in 1940, although cricket was still being played in the village by the "Home Guard".

In 1950 at the instigation of Mr D.F.Cooch and Mr H.A.Lees, the club reformed and in 1952 moved to a field next to the village institute where it remained (cow-pats and all) until 1975 when it moved to the other side of the boundary wall into the picturesque walled paddock where it is today. This area was kindly made available by the Late Earl Spencer, and to mark this memorable occasion, a match was played between Harlestone and an Earl Spencer XI on Saturday 13th September 1975.

The club continued to play only friendly matches up until 1990 when it entered the Northants Alliance League for the first time. When the Alliance League broke up in the late 90's, the club joined the Northants Combination League, and were the last ever winners of the Combination League before it too disbanded to merge with The Northants Championship, The County League & The Alliance League to form the brand new Northamptonshire Cricket League in 2003. This was also a brand new start for the club as local Town League Section Two Champions Express Cricket Club merged with Harlestone to run two league teams for the first time in our history.
